Video on Canonization of Padre Pio Finaly Available

Far be it from me to glory except in the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Gal 6:14).

Like the Apostle Paul, Padre Pio da Pietrelcina placed at the centre of his life and apostolic work the Cross of his Lord as his strength, his wisdom and his glory. Inflamed by love of Jesus Christ, he became like him in the sacrifice of himself for the salvation of the world. In his following and imitation of the Crucified Christ he was so generous and perfect that he could have said: “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me” (Gal 2:20). And the treasures of grace which God had granted him so lavishly and unceasingly he passed on through his ministry, serving the men and women who came to him in ever greater numbers, and bringing to birth an immense host of spiritual sons and daughters.

This worthy follower of Saint Francis of Assisi was born on 25 May 1887 at Pietrelcina in the Archdiocese of Benevento, the son of Grazio Forgione and Maria Giuseppa De Nunzio. He was baptized the next day and given the name Francesco. At the age of twelve he received the Sacrament of Confirmation and made his First Holy Communion.

On 6 January 1903, at the age of sixteen, he entered the novitiate of the Capuchin Friars at Morcone, where on 22 January he took the Franciscan habit and the name Brother Pio. At the end of his novitiate year he took simple vows, and on 27 January 1907 made his solemn profession.

After he was ordained priest on 10 August 1910 at Benevento, he stayed at home with his family until 1916 for health reasons. In September of that year he was sent to the friary of San Giovanni Rotondo and remained there until his death.

Filled with love of God and love of neighbour, Padre Pio lived to the full his vocation to work for the redemption of man, in accordance with the special mission which marked his entire life and which he exercised through the spiritual direction of the faithful: the sacramental reconciliation of penitents and the celebration of the Eucharist. The pinnacle of his apostolic activity was the celebration of Holy Mass. The faithful who took part witnessed the summit and fullness of his spirituality.

On the level of social charity, he committed himself to relieving the pain and suffering of many families, chiefly through the foundation of the Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza (House for the Relief of Suffering), opened on 5 May 1956.

For Padre Pio, faith was life: he willed everything and did everything in the light of faith. He was assiduously devoted to prayer. He passed the day and a large part of the night in conversation with God. He would say: “In books we seek God, in prayer we find him. Prayer is the key which opens God's heart”. Faith led him always to accept God's mysterious will.

He was always immersed in supernatural realities. Not only was he himself a man of hope and total trust in God, but by word and example he communicated these virtues to all who approached him.

The love of God filled him, and satisfied his every desire; charity was the chief inspiration of his day: to love God and to help others to love him. His special concern was to grow in charity and to lead others to do so.

He demonstrated to the full his love of neighbour by welcoming, for more than fifty years, countless people who had recourse to his ministry and his confessional, his counsel and his consolation. He was almost besieged: they sought him in church, in the sacristy, in the friary. And he gave himself to everyone, rekindling faith, dispensing grace, bringing light. But especially in the poor, the suffering and the sick he saw the image of Christ, and he gave himself particularly to them.

He exercised to an exemplary degree the virtue of prudence, acting and counselling in the light of God.

His concern was the glory of God and the good of souls. He treated everyone with justice, frankness and great respect.

The virtue of fortitude shone in him. He understood very early in life that his would be the way of the Cross, and he accepted it at once with courage and out of love. For many years, he experienced spiritual sufferings. For years he endured the pains of his wounds with admirable serenity. 

When he had to submit to investigations and restrictions in his priestly ministry, he accepted everything with profound humility and resignation. In the face of unjust accusations and calumnies he remained silent, trusting always in the judgement of God, of his immediate superiors and of his own conscience.

He habitually practised mortification in order to gain the virtue of temperance, in keeping with the Franciscan style. He was temperate in his attitude and in his way of life.

Conscious of the commitments which he had undertaken when he entered the consecrated life, he observed with generosity the vows he had professed. He was obedient in all things to the commands of his Superiors, even when they were burdensome. His obedience was supernatural in intention, universal in its scope and complete in its execution. He lived the spirit of poverty with total detachment from self, from earthly goods, from his own comfort and from honours. He always had a great love for the virtue of chastity. His behaviour was modest in all situations and with all people.

He sincerely thought of himself as useless, unworthy of God's gifts, full of weakness and infirmity, and at the same time blessed with divine favours. Amid so much admiration around him, he would say: “I only want to be a poor friar who prays”. 

From his youth, his health was not very robust, and especially in the last years of his life it declined rapidly. Sister Death took him well-prepared and serene on 23 September 1968 at the age of eighty-one. An extraordinary gathering of people attended his funeral. 

On 20 February 1971, barely three years after the death of Padre Pio, Pope Paul VI, speaking to the Superiors of the Capuchin Order, said of him: “Look what fame he had, what a worldwide following gathered around him! But why? Perhaps because he was a philosopher? Because he was wise? Because he had resources at his disposal? Because he said Mass humbly, heard confessions from dawn to dusk and was Ý it is not easy to say it Ý one who bore the wounds of our Lord. He was a man of prayer and suffering”.

Even during his lifetime, he enjoyed a vast reputation for sanctity, because of his virtues, his spirit of prayer, sacrifice and total dedication to the good of souls.

In the years following his death, his reputation for sanctity and miracles grew steadily, and became established in the Church, all over the world and among all kinds of people.

God thus showed the Church his desire to glorify on earth his faithful servant. In a short time the Capuchin Order took the steps prescribed by canon law to begin the Cause of Beatification and Canonization. After examining the case, the Holy See, in accordance with the norm of the Motu Proprio “Sanctitas Clarior”, granted the nihil obstat on 29 November 1982. The Archbishop of Manfredonia was thus enabled to introduce the Cause and set up the informative process (1983- 1990). On 7 December 1990, the Congregation for the Causes of Saints recognized its juridical validity. When the Positio had been completed, there was the usual discussion on whether the Servant of God had exercised the virtues to a heroic degree. On 13 June 1997 the Special Meeting of the Theological Consultors was held and gave a positive judgement. In the Ordinary Session on 21 October 1997, with Bishop Andrea Maria Erba of Velletri‑Segni, the Proposer of the Cause, together with the Cardinals and Bishops, recognized that Padre Pio da Pietrelcina had lived to a heroic degree the theological, cardinal and associated virtues.

On 18 December 1997, in the presence of Pope John Paul II, the Decree on heroic virtue was promulgated.

For The Beatification of Padre Pio - by Award British Film Director J. Paddy Nolan, the Postulation presented to the competent Congregation the healing of Signora Consiglia De Martino of Salerno. The regular canonical process on this case was held at the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Salerno-Campagna-Acerno from July 1996 to June 1997. On 30 April 1998 at the Congregation for the Causes of Saints the Medical Board examined the miracle, and on 22 June 1998 the Special Meeting of Theological Consultors gave its judgement. On 20 October 1998 the Ordinary Congregation of the Cardinals and Bishops belonging to the Congregation was held in the Vatican. On 21 December 1998 in the presence of Pope John Paul II the Decree on the miracle was promulgated.

On 2 May 1999, in the course of a solemn concelebrated Mass in St Peter's Square, Pope John Paul II by his apostolic authority beatified the Venerable Servant of God Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, naming 23 September as the date of his liturgical feast.

For the canonization of Blessed Padre Pio of Pietrelcina the Postulation presented to the competent Dicastery the cure of the young Matteo Pio Colella of San Giovanni Rotondo. The regular canonical process on the case was held at the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of the Diocese of Manfredonia-Vieste from 11 June to 17 October 2000. On 23 October the documents were forwarded to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. On 21 November 2001 the medical testimony was examined by the same Congregation. The Theological Consultors held a special Congress on 11 December and on 18 December the ordinary Session of Cardinals and Bishops took place. On 20 December, in the presence of John Paul II, the Decree on the miracle was promulgated. Finally, on 28 February 2002 the Decree of Canonization was promulgated.

PIO DA PIETRELCINA (FRANCESCO FORGIONE), presbitero, dell’Ordine dei Frati Minori Cappuccini.

La Chiesa, iscrivendo nell’Albo dei Santi il Beato Pio da Pietrelcina, propone ai fedeli una viva immagine della bontą del Padre, un appassionato imitatore di GesĚ Crocifisso e un docile strumento dello Spirito Santo a servizio dei fedeli malati nel corpo e nello spirito.

Tutti coloro che, in conformitą al Motu Proprio "Pontificalis Domus" compongono la Cappella Pontificia e desiderano partecipare alla celebrazione liturgica sono pregati di trovarsi alle ore 9.30 in Piazza S. Pietro, per occupare il posto che verrą loro indicato. 

Quanto all'abito, vorranno attenersi alle seguenti indicazioni: 

       - i Signori Cardinali, i Patriarchi, gli Arcivescovi ed i Vescovi sulla veste propria indosseranno il rocchetto e la mozzetta;

1. "Il mio giogo Ź dolce e il mio carico leggero" (Mt 11, 30).

Le parole di GesĚ ai discepoli, che abbiamo appena ascoltato, ci aiutano a comprendere il messaggio piĚ importante di questa solenne celebrazione. Possiamo infatti considerarle, in un certo senso, come una magnifica sintesi dell'intera esistenza di Padre Pio da Pietrelcina, oggi proclamato santo.

L'immagine evangelica del «giogo» evoca le tante prove che l'umile cappuccino di San Giovanni Rotondo si trovė ad affrontare. Oggi contempliamo in lui quanto sia dolce il «giogo» di Cristo e davvero leggero il suo carico quando lo si porta con amore fedele. La vita e la missione di Padre Pio testimoniano che difficoltą e dolori, se accettati per amore, si trasformano in un cammino privilegiato di santitą, che apre verso prospettive di un bene piĚ grande, noto soltanto al Signore.

2. "Quanto a me... non ci sia altro vanto che nella croce del Signore nostro GesĚ Cristo" (Gal 6, 14).

Non Ź forse proprio il "vanto della Croce" ciė che maggiormente risplende in Padre Pio? Quanto attuale Ź la spiritualitą della Croce vissuta dall'umile Cappuccino di Pietrelcina! Il nostro tempo ha bisogno di riscoprirne il valore per aprire il cuore alla speranza.

In tutta la sua esistenza, egli ha cercato una sempre maggiore conformitą al Crocifisso, avendo ben chiara coscienza di essere stato chiamato a collaborare in modo peculiare all'opera della redenzione. Senza questo costante riferimento alla Croce non si comprende la sua santitą.

Nel piano di Dio, la Croce costituisce il vero strumento di salvezza per l'intera umanitą e la via esplicitamente proposta dal Signore a quanti vogliono mettersi alla sua sequela (cfr Mc 16, 24). Lo ha ben compreso il Santo Frate del Gargano, il quale, nella festa dell'Assunta del 1914, scriveva: "Per arrivare a raggiungere l'ultimo nostro fine bisogna seguire il divin Capo, il quale non per altra via vuol condurre l'anima eletta se non per quella da lui battuta; per quella, dico, dell'abnegazione e della Croce" (Epistolario II, p. 155).

3. "Io sono il Signore che agisce con misericordia" (Ger 9, 23).

Padre Pio Ź stato generoso dispensatore della misericordia divina, rendendosi a tutti disponibile attraverso l'accoglienza, la direzione spirituale, e specialmente l'amministrazione del sacramento della Penitenza. Il ministero del confessionale, che costituisce uno dei tratti distintivi del suo apostolato, attirava folle innumerevoli di fedeli al Convento di San Giovanni Rotondo. Anche quando quel singolare confessore trattava i pellegrini con apparente durezza, questi, presa coscienza della gravitą del peccato e sinceramente pentiti, quasi sempre tornavano indietro per l'abbraccio pacificante del perdono sacramentale.

Possa il suo esempio animare i sacerdoti a compiere con gioia e assiduitą questo ministero, tanto importante anche oggi, come ho voluto ribadire nella Lettera ai Sacerdoti in occasione del passato Giovedď Santo.

4. "Sei tu Signore, l'unico mio bene".

Cosď abbiamo cantato nel Salmo Responsoriale. Attraverso queste parole il nuovo Santo ci invita a porre Dio al di sopra di tutto, a considerarlo come il solo e sommo nostro bene.

In effetti, la ragione ultima dell'efficacia apostolica di Padre Pio, la radice profonda di tanta feconditą spirituale si trova in quella intima e costante unione con Dio di cui erano eloquenti testimonianze le lunghe ore trascorse in preghiera. Amava ripetere: "Sono un povero frate che prega", convinto che "la preghiera Ź la migliore arma che abbiamo, una chiave che apre il Cuore di Dio". Questa fondamentale caratteristica della sua spiritualitą continua nei «Gruppi di Preghiera» da lui fondati, che offrono alla Chiesa e alla societą il formidabile contributo di una orazione incessante e fiduciosa. Alla preghiera Padre Pio univa poi un'intensa attivitą caritativa di cui Ź straordinaria espressione la "Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza". Preghiera e caritą, ecco una sintesi quanto mai concreta dell'insegnamento di Padre Pio, che quest'oggi viene a tutti riproposto.

5. "Ti benedico, Padre, Signore del cielo e della terra perché... queste cose... le hai rivelate ai piccoli" (Mt 11, 25).

Quanto appropriate appaiono queste parole di GesĚ, quando le si pensa riferite a te, umile ed amato Padre Pio.

Insegna anche a noi, ti preghiamo, l'umiltą del cuore, per essere annoverati tra i piccoli del Vangelo, ai quali il Padre ha promesso di rivelare i misteri del suo Regno.

Aiutaci a pregare senza mai stancarci, certi che Iddio conosce ciė di cui abbiamo bisogno, prima ancora che lo domandiamo.

Ottienici uno sguardo di fede capace di riconoscere prontamente nei poveri e nei sofferenti il volto stesso di GesĚ.

Sostienici nell'ora del combattimento e della prova e, se cadiamo, fa che sperimentiamo la gioia del sacramento del Perdono.

Trasmettici la tua tenera devozione verso Maria, Madre di GesĚ e nostra.

Accompagnaci nel pellegrinaggio terreno verso la Patria beata, dove speriamo di giungere anche noi per contemplare in eterno la Gloria del Padre, del Figlio e dello Spirito Santo. Amen!

Carissimi Fratelli e Sorelle!

1. ť una grande gioia incontrarvi di nuovo, all'indomani della solenne canonizzazione dell'umile Cappuccino di San Giovanni Rotondo. Vi saluto con affetto, cari pellegrini e devoti convenuti a Roma cosď numerosi per questa singolare circostanza. Rivolgo anzitutto il mio pensiero ai Vescovi presenti, ai sacerdoti e ai religiosi. Un ricordo speciale per i cari Frati Cappuccini che, in comunione con tutta la Chiesa, lodano e ringraziano il Signore per le meraviglie da lui operate in questo loro esemplare Confratello. Padre Pio Ź un autentico modello di spiritualitą e di umanitą, due peculiari caratteristiche della tradizione francescana e cappuccina.

Saluto gli aderenti ai "Gruppi di Preghiera Padre Pio" e i rappresentanti della famiglia della "Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza", grande opera di cura e di assistenza ai malati, sgorgata dalla caritą del nuovo Santo. Abbraccio voi, cari pellegrini provenienti dalla nobile Terra che ha dato i natali a Padre Pio, dalle altre regioni d'Italia e da ogni parte del mondo. Con la vostra presenza voi testimoniate come la devozione e la fiducia nei confronti del santo Frate del Gargano siano ampiamente diffuse nella Chiesa e in ogni Continente.

2. Ma qual Ź il segreto di tanta ammirazione e amore verso questo nuovo Santo? Egli Ź innanzitutto un "frate del popolo", tradizionale caratteristica dei Cappuccini. ť, inoltre, un santo taumaturgo, come testimoniano gli eventi straordinari che costellano la sua vita. Soprattutto, perė, Padre Pio Ź un religioso sinceramente innamorato di Cristo crocifisso. Al mistero della Croce egli ha partecipato in modo anche fisico nel corso della sua vita.

Egli amava congiungere la gloria del Tabor al mistero della Passione, come leggiamo in una sua lettera: "Innanzi di esclamare anche noi con san Pietro 'Oh! quanto Ź buono l'essere qui', bisogna ascendere prima il Calvario, ove non si vede che morte, chiodi, spine, sofferenza, tenebre straordinarie, abbandoni e deliqui" (Epistolario III, p. 287).

Questo suo cammino di esigente ascesi spirituale Padre Pio lo compď in profonda comunione con la Chiesa. Non valsero a frenare questo suo atteggiamento di filiale obbedienza momentanee incomprensioni con l'una o con l'altra Autoritą ecclesiale. Padre Pio fu, in pari misura, fedele e coraggioso figlio della Chiesa, seguendo anche in questo il luminoso esempio del Poverello d'Assisi.

3. Questo santo Cappuccino, a cui tante persone si rivolgono da ogni angolo della terra, ci indica i mezzi per raggiungere la santitą, che Ź il fine della nostra vita cristiana. Quanti fedeli di ogni condizione sociale, provenienti dai luoghi piĚ diversi e dalle situazioni piĚ difficili, accorrevano a lui per interrogarlo! A tutti sapeva offrire ciė di cui avevano maggiormente bisogno, e che spesso cercavano come a tentoni, senza neppure averne piena consapevolezza. Egli trasmetteva loro la Parola consolatrice e illuminante di Dio, consentendo a ciascuno di attingere alle fonti della grazia mediante l'assidua dedizione al ministero delle Confessioni e la fervorosa celebrazione dell'Eucaristia.

Cosď scriveva ad una sua figlia spirituale: "Non temere di accostarti all'altare del Signore per saziarti delle carni dell'Agnello immacolato, perché nessuno riunirą meglio il tuo spirito che il suo re, nessuna cosa lo riscalderą meglio che il suo sole, e niente di meglio lo addolcirą che il suo balsamo" (ivi, p. 944).

4. La Messa di Padre Pio! Era per i sacerdoti un eloquente richiamo alla bellezza della vocazione presbiterale; per i religiosi ed i laici, che accorrevano a San Giovanni Rotondo anche in ore molto mattutine, era una straordinaria catechesi sul valore e sull'importanza del Sacrificio eucaristico.

La Santa Messa era il cuore e la fonte di tutta la sua spiritualitą: "C'Ź nella Messa - egli soleva dire - tutto il Calvario". I fedeli, che si assiepavano intorno al suo Altare, erano profondamente colpiti dall'intensitą della sua "immersione" nel Mistero e percepivano che "il Padre" partecipava in prima persona alle sofferenze del Redentore.

5. San Pio da Pietrelcina si presenta cosď davanti a tutti - sacerdoti, religiosi, religiose e laici - come un testimone credibile di Cristo e del suo Vangelo. Il suo esempio e la sua intercessione spronano ciascuno ad un amore sempre maggiore verso Dio ed alla concreta solidarietą verso il prossimo, specialmente verso quello piĚ bisognoso.

Ci aiuti la Vergine Maria, che Padre Pio invocava col bel titolo di "Santa Maria delle Grazie", a seguire le orme di questo religioso cosď amato dalla gente!

Con questo augurio, benedico di cuore voi qui presenti, le persone a voi care e quanti si impegnano a camminare nella scia spirituale del caro Santo di Pietrelcina.

Al termine di questa solenne celebrazione, desidero salutare i Cardinali, gli Arcivescovi e i Vescovi presenti, insieme col Ministro Generale dei Cappuccini e tutti i Confratelli di Padre Pio.

Rivolgo un deferente saluto alla Delegazione ufficiale del Governo italiano guidata dal Vice Presidente del Consiglio ed alle numerose altre Autoritą civili e militari italiane.

Un particolare pensiero desidero poi riservare a tutti i pellegrini convenuti in questa Piazza e nelle vie adiacenti, specialmente a quanti hanno affrontato il sacrificio di rimanere in piedi per lungo tempo. Saluto pure i fedeli raccolti in preghiera a San Giovanni Rotondo e quanti ci seguono mediante la televisione. Nell’esortare ciascuno a perseverare sulle orme di san Pio da Pietrelcina, sono lieto di annunciare che la sua memoria liturgica, con il grado di "obbligatoria", sarą inserita nel Calendario Romano generale il 23 settembre, giorno della sua nascita al Cielo.

Full Shocking Text of The Third Secret of Fatima Prophecy not Revealed?

In a 1980 interview for the German magazine Stimme des Glaubens published in October 1981, John Paul II was asked explicitly to speak about the third secret. He said: "Because of the seriousness of its contents, in order not to encourage the world wide power of Communism to carry out certain coups, my predecessors in the chair of Peter have diplomatically preferred to withhold its publication. On the other hand, it should be sufficient for all Christians to know this much: if there is a message in which it is said that the oceans will flood entire sections of the earth; that, from one moment to the other, millions of people will perish... there is no longer any point in really wanting to publish this secret message. Many want to know merely out of curiosity, or because of their taste for sensationalism, but they forget that 'to know' implies for them a responsibility. It is dangerous to want to satisfy one's curiosity only, if one is convinced that we can do nothing against a catastrophe that has been predicted." He held up his rosary and stated "Here is the remedy against this evil. Pray, pray and ask for nothing else. Put everything in the hands of the Mother of God." Asked what would happen in the Church, he said: "We must be prepared to undergo great trials in the not-too-distant future; trials that will require us to be ready to give up even our lives, and a total gift of self to Christ and for Christ. Through your prayers and mine, it is possible to alleviate this tribulation, but it is no longer possible to avert it, because it is only in this way that the Church can be effectively renewed. How many times, indeed, has the renewal of the Church been effected in blood? This time, again, it will not be otherwise. We must be strong, we must prepare ourselves, we must entrust ourselves to Christ and to His holy Mother, and we must be attentive, very attentive, to the prayer of the Rosary.

Lúcia herself is reported to have explicitly stated that the Third Secret contains Apocalyptic content. According to one source, when Lúcia was asked about the Third Secret, she said it was "in the Gospels and in the Apocalypse", and at one point she had even specified Apocalypse chapters 8 to 13, a range that includes Apocalypse 12:4, the chapter and verse cited by Pope John Paul II in his homily in Fatima on 13 May 2000.

A news article quoted former Philippine ambassador to the Vatican, Howard Dee, as saying that Cardinal Ratzinger had personally confirmed to him that the messages of Akita and Fatima are "essentially the same."

A TERRIBLE WARNING - THE MESSAGE OF OUR LADY OF AKITA, JAPAN: The third message on October 13, 1973, the actual anniversary of the final visions and miracle of Fatima is as follows: "As I told you, if men do not repent and better themselves, the Father will inflict a terrible punishment on all humanity. It will be a punishment greater than the deluge, such as one will never have seen before. Fire will fall from the sky and will wipe out a great part of humanity, the good as well as the bad, sparing neither priests nor faithful. The survivors will find themselves so desolate that they will envy the dead. The only arms which will remain for you will be the Rosary and the Sign left by my Son. Each day, recite the prayers of the Rosary. With the Rosary, pray for the Pope, the bishops and the priests. The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a way that one will see cardinals opposing cardinals, and bishops against other bishops. The priests who venerate me will be scorned and opposed by their Confreres. The Church and altars will be vandalized. The Church will be full of those who accept compromises and the demon will press many priests and consecrated souls to leave the service of the Lord.

Shocking Text of The Third Secret of Fatima:


VATICAN CITY, JUN 26, 2000 (VIS) - Given below is the complete translation of the original Portuguese text of the third part of the secret of Fatima, revealed to the three shepherd children at Cova da Iria-Fatima on July 13, 1917, and committed to paper by Sr. Lucia on January 3, 1944:

"I write in obedience to you, my God, who command me to do so through his Excellency the Bishop of Leiria and through your Most Holy Mother and mine.

"After the two parts which I have already explained, at the left of Our Lady and a little above, we saw an Angel with a flaming sword in his left hand; flashing, it gave out flames that looked as though they would set the world on fire; but they died out in contact with the splendor that Our Lady radiated towards him from her right hand: pointing to the earth with his right hand, the Angel cried out in a loud voice: 'Penance, Penance, Penance!'. And we saw in an immense light that is God: 'something similar to how people appear in a mirror when they pass in front of it' a Bishop dressed in White 'we had the impression that it was the Holy Father'. Other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious going up a steep mountain, at the top of which there was a big Cross of rough-hewn trunks as of a cork-tree with the bark; before reaching there the Holy Father passed through a big city half in ruins and half trembling with halting step, afflicted with pain and sorrow, he prayed for the souls of the corpses he met on his way; having reached the top of the mountain, on his knees at the foot of the big Cross he was killed by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and arrows at him, and in the same way there died one after another the other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious, and various lay people of different ranks and positions. Beneath the two arms of the Cross there were two Angels each with a crystal aspersorium in his hand, in which they gathered up the blood of the Martyrs and with it sprinkled the souls that were making their way to God."
